Many times we are only privy to a certain amount of information about a situation, event, or relationship at any given time. We do not know all that is going on in other people’s perspectives, lives, and minds, but we have an outline. Sometimes, we find ourselves adding elements to this outline which are flavored with stories that we create. So how do these stories that we create affect us?
When evaluating this, ask yourself:
“What story am I telling myself?”
“What past events may be influencing the story I’m telling myself?”
“If I take a breath & zoom out, what other aspects might I be missing?”

Why do people treat me the way they do? How can I make others treat me better? How do I get others to treat me differently? How do I treat myself better?
In this episode of Love Always, Self, Karista & Shyra discuss the experience of receiving poor treatment from others and how changing the treatment received from others begins with observing and changing how you treat yourself.
We can’t control how other people act, think, feel, or speak towards us. What we do have control over is how we treat ourselves and what we are willing to accept from others. When we start treating ourselves better, with more love and compassion, and give ourselves room for grace, we begin the process of setting boundaries with the treatment of ourselves with ourselves. Then, the treatment we are willing to accept from others begins to change. Once we no longer accept poor treatment from ourselves the bar for the treatment we receive from others begins to rise. We begin to reject any treatment that is less than the treatment we give to ourselves.
So how do you influence how others treat you?
It starts with how you treat yourself!

What is perspective? How do I shift perspectives? What is my perspective? How do I see other perspectives? Do I choose my perspective? Am I a victim or a creator? How can I consciously choose a perspective? How do I zoom out from a situation?
In this episode of Love Always, Self, Karista & Shyra discuss how to practice shifting perspectives by consciously deciding on how you want to emotionally respond in a situation, how you want to feel towards a perspective, or whether or not you want to interact with a perspective. Each perspective we evaluate has the opportunity for creating an alternative timeline and a butterfly effect based on your choices.
Learning how to reduce your reactivity and consciously evaluate how you want to respond can take time, like creating any new habit. With practice, patience and compassion with yourself will assist you in learning how to respond more consciously to situations.
Practice being open to new perspectives with these tips:
Viewing the situation from a zoomed out point of view. Be open to seeing new sides of the situation, including other people’s potential perspectives and what may be affecting them.
Hold space for others: Take a moment and listen. Be open to receiving information.
Set boundaries for yourself. If you need space to consider other perspectives, communicate what you need from the other person (ie. 5m or a day to think)
If you need clarity, ask for it.
Minimize shortcuts in communication to avoid misunderstandings.
Have a dialogue, not a debate. It’s not about convincing, it’s about understanding.
Speak your truth; and be open to alternative truths.
Release expectations
Learn to accept that another person’s perception may be different. Let go of the idea that you are meant to change their mind and be open to the possibility that they may change yours.
Understand that much discomfort and fear is expressed through anger, and most of this is related to deeply rooted negative patterns of belief.
Some people’s perceptions may not be the same as your own, and that is ok too.
Ground yourself in a place of LOVE, for yourself and others
How do we choose a different perspective?
Make the choice to practice being open to shifting perspectives & creating new patterns
Zoom out from the immediate situation/event
Create awareness
Observe, both the internal & external reactions of yourself and others’ reactions
Communicate your intentions to create new patterns
Hold compassion for yourself and others
Decide on how you want to feel & the impact you want to have on others
Shifting perspectives is not about who is right or who is wrong, it’s about coming together to try to understand one another so we can support each other, love each other and build each other up. On a larger scale, when we come together from a place of trying to absorb information, purely for the purpose of understanding, we can begin to work better together in building a stronger, happier community and life. It’s not about competition, it’s about collaboration in co-creation in what we want to experience in this life.

In this episode of Love Always, Self, Karista & Shyra discuss how our masks are created, how they are used to help us in society, and removing them to step more into our authentic selves.
The masks we wear are created in response to our environment in childhood and continue to evolve throughout life. We learn what type of mask is essential in society and how we can use it to affect our perceived worth as measured by others. Our masks are created as a resource to assist us in moving through and advancing in our society. Masks are not inherently bad, but when we become reliant on the mask and forget who we are beyond it, this can become a deterrent to living our most authentic lives.
There are times and places when masks are a beneficial tool. The mask we wear to work presents more professionalism and utilizes only a select portion of our overall knowledge. We wear a mask to go to the grocery store or to go through the drive-through. Even in close relationships, we may have a tendency to wear masks.
Like everything in life masks will evolve and eventually fade away. This is part of your spiritual evolution. The YOU beyond the masks, beyond your personality, there is a deeper, more dynamic you to know. Learn to remove the masks and allow your true self to shine through. You are a treasure!
