Ep 63: Thriving In An Ever Changing World; Flexibility vs Rigidity
How does rigidity affect your health? Can being rigid negatively impact mental health? How does mental health relate to mental flexibility? Is the world constantly changing? Is change easier if you are flexible?
In this episode of Love Always, Self, Karista & Shyra discuss the difference between being rigid and maintaining flexibility.
What comes to mind when you think of RIGIDITY?
Stubbornness, frustration, stagnation, emotional attachments, judgment, limitations, lack of compassion, and empathy.
What comes to mind when you think of FLEXIBILITY?
Adaptivity, move-ability, changeability, growth, learning, curiosity, and ability to integrate new information.
There is a balance that can be found between a rigid mindset and a flexible mindset. Some rigidity can be beneficial in ways of routines; self-care, eating, showering, and brushing your teeth. Being consistent with diet, exercise, and sleep can be very supportive of maintaining a healthy body.
Other times, flexibility can be beneficial in that variations can be more easily integrated with less upheaval. Yes, change is uncomfortable — fear of the unknown — however, the only constant in this world is that everything is constantly changing.
How do we navigate the waters of change by practicing flexibility?
- Ask questions: Where are you right now? What are your now routines? What continues to trigger you and why? What about the now makes you feel safe about staying the same? Why are you afraid of the change?
- Learn to let go and go with the flow. Resist change, you will struggle against the current of change.
- Ride the wave and see where it takes you. What do you notice happening around you when you ride the wave vs fight the wave? What about internally?
- Practice changing your mindset. Are you in a victim mindset or a creator mindset? Are you open to the Universe working for you? Even if it's not in the way you would like for it to work?
- Learn to listen to yourself, and go within. What feels right at this moment to you?
Remember, small changes can lead to big transformations.
